A weekend

The weekend before last was an eventful one with Jessye invited to a fairy party and then the whole family going on a farm visit. The farm belongs to the parents of a Lauriston girl Jessye played in a quartet with earlier in the year. They have 2 girls and a boy with the 2 girls the same age as Jessye and Rosie (the boy is a year or two older) - quite a good match although the Watt 3 were considerably noisier.

The dress-up barrel didn't extend to a fairy outfit for a tall 12-year-old so Jessye and Wilma did a few costume-hire joints and found just the thing. Unfortunately they didn't have wings to match so Wilma found a fairy shop and bought the precise shade required. The party went swimmingly.

On the Sunday the car was loaded up with everybody except the cats. At the farm, about an hour and a half from Melbourne, it was a great day of walking, hanging out, making chocolate cake, eating, kayaking and playing. Fred and Barney had the time of their lives tearing around after Meg, the other family's dog.

Finally, for Rosie, there was a memorable close encounter. Isobel, one of the girls of the household, led Jessye, Rosie and Sophie under the fence into the paddock containing the heiffers. She left them to it then Rosie waved the other two back. She slowly inched her way towards the nervous but curious beasts letting them get used to her gradually. After a few stages of advancing she was right in the midst of them and would happily have stayed there all day but Jo, the lady of the house, had chores to do and it was time to head home. Rosie decided she would try to find a cow costume for trick-or-treating in a week's time.
