Round 2, day 3

Rosie rang me at 6:15am having been woken by a nurse and unable to go back to sleep. I was already up and planning to go over early today anyway because I wanted to be there when Miika and David did their rounds as there was a possibility they were going to remove Rosie's hat today. Jessye was still asleep but Rosie and I took a wheelchair and went out to the 3rd floor garden. She wanted to take pen and paper and try to write. She wrote "I want to see if I can write". That was easy and natural for her but when I wrote "But can you read?" that was like Egyptian hyroglyphics to her - she couldn't read at all. We told Miika and David about this and they were concerned. We will have to wait and see if things shift during the coming days but it's possible this will require rehabilitation work to come. They said they wouldn't take the hat off today.

We went down to the cafe for hot chocolate and Rosie had a sausage roll for breakfast. When we came back, she wanted a nap so she and I nodded off for an hour. Then Micheal just came with the troops and had a completely different attitude. He said we'll lose the hat today, tested Rosie on several objects, some of which she got right and others not, made her repeat after him "no ifs, ands or buts" which came out as "no withs, ands or buts" and told her to touch her right ear with her left forefinger, which she did. We told him about being able to write but not read. He said it's early days after surgery and she'll be fine. He also said she should get up and about as much as she can and not nap during the day too much. So with that pep talk, off we go!
